With rapidly escalating costs making the use of on-site security guards increasingly unattractive for many businesses, Crown Security Group of Port Talbot has, for some time, been working with Siemens Building Technologies Security Products to develop a sophisticated security service based on remote monitoring. This service – RedAlert – already easily surpasses the effectiveness of traditional on-site guards, yet the recurring costs are typically around one-tenth of those associated with the guards. As a result, the service is proving so popular that Crown Security has recently invested more than £500,000 to equip a brand new control centre to support the growth in demand.

CCTV equipment supplied by Siemens Building Technologies Security Products Ltd has provided a versatile and effective basis for a temporary traffic-monitoring scheme devised, installed and operated by the Serco Group on the busy A282 road (M25 south of the Dartford crossing) in Kent. The construction project has been undertaken by Coastain Ltd on behalf of the Highways Agency.
The CCTV system installed is an aid to locating and dealing with breakdowns, accidents and other incidents on a section of the road where a long-term contraflow is in operation during major road improvement works to ease traffic flow in the vicinity of the Dartford Crossing over the River Thames.
